Knock Out Sarcoma

We are hopeful that the worst of COVID-19 is behind us and hope that our friends, families and communities continue to heal and recover.

As we cautiously look to the future, we are tentatively planning our 3rd annual fun run event and hope things continue to improve over the coming months.

Please save the date and join us on Saturday, June 5th, 2021. We hope to see everyone for a socially distanced but amazing event. Until then stay safe!

About

Dear Knock Out Sarcoma 5K Participants and Supporters,

On behalf of myself and the entire orthopedic oncology team at Montefiore, I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to all of you who donated time, money and effort into making this event an absolute success! The event brought together people from all walks of life – including friends, family members, faculty members, researchers, residents, colleagues, and industry sponsors. We also had a chance to host a few inspirational patients as well as a number of amazing family members and friends of current patients. Notably, we were joined and supported by the family and friends of some very special patients whom we have lost to this fight and whom we remember fondly. In total, we were supported by over 120 participants and over 140 donors. To everyone involved, thank you for making this event a huge success!

We are just beginning and look forward to growing this event each year. Please keep us in mind, help us spread the word, increase awareness, and raise research funds in the battle against sarcoma. Join us next year once again in our efforts to improve the outcomes and lives of sarcoma patients both here at Montefiore and beyond!

Sincerely,

David S. Geller, MD

Sarcomas are rare and your support can make a big difference! Join in the fight and help support our efforts!

Sarcomas are a rare form of cancer, affecting patients of all ages. Many of these sarcomas arise in otherwise healthy children and young adults and inflict a tremendous toll on both the patient and their family. The Division of Orthopedic Oncology at Montefiore Medical Center is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with both soft-tissue and bone sarcomas. In addition, our laboratory seeks to better understand how these tumors arise and in turn, how to better treat them.

Knock Out Sarcoma

The Knock Out Sarcoma Fun/Run took place on Saturday June 1st, 2019 in the morning and lasted approximately 2 - 3 hours. While we were planning the 2020 event - the COVID-19 outbreak and our need to maintain social distances did not permit us to carry on as planned. We are now planning the 2021 event and look forward to making it an overwhelming success! Save the date June 5th, 2021! We hope to see everyone there! The event serves as an opportunity for friends, colleagues, athletes, and community members to come together, enjoy the outdoors, and to raise money for a rare and underfunded form of cancer. It is a casual, yet meaningful opportunity to give back to some of our sarcoma patients and the individuals who work hard to improve their outcomes. We were glad to have many of you join us for a few hours to help fund future sarcoma research and tomorrow's sarcoma care and look forward to seeing you again in June of 2021! Your support for this event was and continues to be tremendously valued!
